Choosing to Pursue Radical Purity in Your Own Life

Talking about God’s radical design for love, sex, and purity with 400 girls and women isn’t a normal occurrence in this day and age. But that’s exactly what happened this past weekend at the Radical Purity Conference in San Antonio, TX. We courageously, unashamedly, and tactfully unpacked God’s good plan for our sexuality as women. We talked openly about some of the not-so-often-talked-about areas, and allowed God’s Word to shed light and truth into these relevant topics. We asked the hard questions, and looked into God’s Word for solid answers. We quickly discovered that God’s design for purity is radical. It’s completely counter-cultural. It’s unlike anything you see inFull Post

Why Disagreeing with Someone Shouldn’t Turn Into Hate

WATCH VIDEO  The more our ministry has grown the more hate comments and bullying type comments we’ve received. Bullying and speaking in hateful ways seems to be the new trend.  If you disagree with someone these days, it’s totally acceptable to hate on them. We, as Christian young women, need to learn how to disagree without hating. The two of us want to challenge you to a higher standard. Whether it’s in person, online, with a friend, or towards a stranger, allow these verses to filter your words. Ephesians 4:29-32 (NLT)  “Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will beFull Post

What Christian Girls and Katy Perry Have in Common

This past year my younger sister, Ellissa was a part of a mentoring program at our local public school. She had the privilege of mentoring three little girls that were as sweet and cute as can be. On one of her mentoring days, Ellissa walked through the lunch line and found a spot outside where she and the girls could eat. As they found a spot and began to sit down, the girls excitedly told Ellissa that they wanted to perform a song and dance for her. Within seconds the girls were up and doing their thing. These little girls broke out into the full word-for-word hit song “Roar”Full Post

Radical Purity: Embracing God’s Best in the Midst of a Highly Seductive Culture

The two of us are beyond excited for the Radical Purity Conference happening this weekend in San Antonio, Texas (our hometown). We’re incredibly excited and grateful that God has provided the resources needed for Girl Defined to host this event. Having the opportunity to talk about sex and purity from a biblical perspective is something I’m thrilled to do. (Here’s a peek at our promo video.) Even if you don’t plan to join us at the conference, I want you to know that you are not alone. You are not alone in your struggles to understand sexuality and stay pure. God isn’t surprised or shocked by what you’ve doneFull Post

Be a Girl Who Lives with Vision, Passion, and Purpose

When Kristen and I launched our very first blog (long before GirlDefined existed) we didn’t have a very clear plan of what we were doing. Due to our serious lack of vision for the blog, it didn’t take long for our interests to diminish. Let’s just say that our original blog didn’t last very long. Through that experience, the two of us realized our serious need for vision, passion, and purpose. Once the two of us established our vision for GirlDefined, that drove our passion, which in turn fueled our purpose on a daily basis. We want to challenge you to be a girl who lives with a visionFull Post

Becoming Women Who Understand The Power of Worship

The past few months of my life feel like they’ve been filled with a certain 7 letter word. This word flies in the face of my natural heart’s desire and is the opposite of everything the culture promotes. This word has challenged me, convicted me, encouraged me and given me incredible hope. When I focus on living this word out, I have such incredible rest, contentment, and joy in my heart. I want to share this word with you in hopes that you can find the same hope, conviction, contentment, and joy that I’ve found by striving to live it out. The word is WORSHIP. The word worship holdsFull Post

Is it Wrong for Christian Couples to Live Together Before Marriage?

We were desperately in love. He wanted to marry me and I wanted to be his wife. He popped the question while the sun was setting one cool October night. I immediately said yes and from that moment on we viewed one another as our soon-to-be-spouses. Love was in the air. We began planning and prepping for our future life together. We talked budgets, apartments, registries, bathroom towel colors, and everything in between. The wedding was only eight months away. Wouldn’t it make sense for us to move in together now? Why not get ahead of the game by combining our living spaces early? Shouldn’t we give marriage a testFull Post

The Greatest Calling of a Modern Christian Girl

I was in my early twenties and nannying part time. It was a school day, which meant waiting at the bus stop to pick up kids. As  I was heading towards the bus stop, I noticed a young woman waiting at the bus stop as well. I didn’t recognize her and figured she must be new. Being the extroverted and outgoing girl that I am, I quickly introduced myself. Sara shared with me that she had just arrived in Texas, coming from Europe, and would be nannying directly across the street from me. Knowing that Sara was new to town (and had zero friends) I decided to reach out toFull Post

How Modesty Taught Me to Value My Body More, Not Less

When I was 21 years old, I signed a one year contract with a modeling agency. After that one year was up, I walked away from the industry and never looked back. Even though my experience was brief, I got a good taste for what it felt like to be objectified for a profit. In my book, Girl Defined, I talk about how the modeling industry along with countless other industries have re-trained our society to view the female body as a consumable object. TV shows like Girls Gone Wild, companies like Playboy, restaurants like Hooters and magazines like Cosmo have completely destroyed America’s view of women. Teen girlsFull Post
